This sunrise was absolutely incredible, and I love the way the trains curve into the heart of it. It was really dark at this time since the sun hadn't broken through the clouds yet, and this required multiple bracketed exposures to bring out all the details and colours of the trains.

Sunsets at Iona beach in Richmond can look like a different planet. The amazing textures in the sand bars were recently covered by the tide here, and these herons were wandering through the shallow water looking for a small meal while the stunning colours of the sunset reflected all around them.

Getting down low enough for the red light streaks to completely encompass the red Vogue Theatre sign, and not getting run over by a bus were my main my goals here.

Placing my camera on the street and crouching under a parked car for protection from the oncoming traffic, I waited patiently for a bus, knowing they create the best light trails. The resulting long exposure photo is an attempt to create a symphony of both light and movement.

Drenched in Vancouver's notorious winter rain, I was determined to find something to contrast the particularly stormy night. I stood like a degenerate paparazzi hoping to capture something to represent the perfect balance of darkness and light. Suddenly, a woman with a red umbrella emerged from the shadows - or possibly the bar across the street - and it was just enough to add the splash of romance and beauty that this photo needed.

Channelling my inner foliage commando, I lay down and burrowed my lens deep between the leaves and branches. The darkness inside required multiple bracketed exposures to reveal the glowing colours of the leaves, the details in the twisting trunk, and beautiful sporadic green mosses.

I love these trees, but to capture them like this you need to get down really low, essentially lying down on the fallen leaves and soil and shooting upwards so they become enormous in the frame.

During the winter, cloud inversions like this in Vancouver can appear for days at a time. But they're not always this low, in this exact position, right at sunrise with a glowing pink sky. The sun was just popping up over the horizon to illuminate the downtown buildings which made for a spectacular scene. I shot hundreds of photos over the course of an hour or so as the clouds rolled by, and this panorama ended up being the absolute perfect combination of these surreal conditions.
