Amber Aura: The Flamboyant Farewell 24×32″ Canvas

A Japanese maple tree at Queen Elizabeth Park puts on a dazzling show of fiery shades of orange and yellow. It’s as if the tree is throwing one final, extravagant party before it bids adieu to its vibrant attire for the season. The resulting image is a testament to the spirited energy of fall, as the tree’s leaves celebrate their final, fabulous moments in the spotlight.

I love these trees, but to capture them like this you need to get down really low, essentially lying down on the fallen leaves and soil and shooting upwards so they become enormous in the frame.

    Crimson Dragon 24×32″ Canvas

    $220.00

The Japanese maple tree appears to have summoned a mythical creature from ancient lore. With the sinuous trunk twisting like a dragon’s tail and vibrant red leaves igniting the sky, the scene is a captivating fusion of fantasy and reality.

Channelling my inner foliage commando, I lay down and burrowed my lens deep between the leaves and branches. The darkness inside required multiple bracketed exposures to reveal the glowing colours of the leaves, the details in the twisting trunk, and beautiful sporadic green mosses.

Dancing With The Downpour 20×30″ Canvas

    $180.00

On a dark and stormy night, the majestic Hotel Europe stands tall, a beacon of light and refuge amidst the relentless downpour. As the rain cascades over Gastown, a lone woman with a red umbrella adds a touch of vibrancy to the scene, painting a picture of resilience and beauty in the face of nature’s fury.

Drenched in Vancouver’s notorious winter rain, I was determined to find something to contrast the particularly stormy night. I stood like a degenerate paparazzi hoping to capture something to represent the perfect balance of darkness and light. Suddenly, a woman with a red umbrella emerged from the shadows – or possibly the bar across the street – and it was just enough to add the splash of romance and beauty that this photo needed.

The city awakens to a surreal sight as a cloud inversion envelops the downtown core in a dreamy veil of mist. A truly breathtaking start to the day as the skyline of Vancouver appeared to float above the clouds for a few brief moments.

During the winter, cloud inversions like this in Vancouver can appear for days at a time. But they’re not always this low, in this exact position, right at sunrise with a glowing pink sky. The sun was just popping up over the horizon to illuminate the downtown buildings which made for a spectacular scene. I shot hundreds of photos over the course of an hour or so as the clouds rolled by, and this panorama ended up being the absolute perfect combination of these surreal conditions.

    $180.00

The colourful trains snake along the tracks, seemingly drawn to the magnificent sunrise that sets the sky ablaze with a swirling inferno of reds and oranges.

This sunrise was absolutely incredible, and I love the way the trains curve into the heart of it. It was really dark at this time since the sun hadn’t broken through the clouds yet, and this required multiple bracketed exposures to bring out all the details and colours of the trains.

    Granville’s Streaking Symphony 24×32″ Canvas

    $220.00

The Orpheum Theatre basks in the nocturnal glow of downtown Vancouver. The glowing sign’s grandeur is amplified by the dynamic light trails of a city bus, weaving a tapestry of urban energy.

Placing my camera on the street and crouching under a parked car for protection from the oncoming traffic, I waited patiently for a bus, knowing they create the best light trails. The resulting long exposure photo is an attempt to create a symphony of both light and movement.

As night embraces Granville Street, the Vogue Theatre comes alive, its facade gleaming amidst the urban darkness. Streaking red lights from a passing city bus add a touch of fiery drama, painting a captivating portrait of downtown Vancouver’s pulsing energy.

Getting down low enough for the red light streaks to completely encompass the red Vogue Theatre sign, and not getting run over by a bus were my main my goals here.

Two herons step gracefully through the calm water, basking in the beauty of the sunset while ripples of stunning orange and blue hues reflect around them.

Sunsets at Iona beach in Richmond can look like a different planet. The amazing textures in the sand bars were recently covered by the tide here, and these herons were wandering through the shallow water looking for a small meal while the stunning colours of the sunset reflected all around them.
